The Importance of Decisions
Today’s post is all about decisions. I really want to stress this point because it is so incredibly important for your life. Why are decisions so important? Well, in a nutshell: Decisions shape your life completely. Every habit you have right now, almost everything you like and dislike about your life and every goal you have set is based on a decision you made at some point in time. A decision means choosing one of multiple possibilities and committing to it, cutting everything else off. If you become a millionaire at some point in your life is because of your decision, unless you have won the lottery or something like that. If you find yourself having an awesome and hot girlfriend it is because of a decision you have made. You are able to achieve everything but you have to decide what you want out of life.
“Man is not the creature of circumstances, circumstances are the creatures of men.” – Benjamin Disraeli
I love this quote. There is so much wisdom and truth behind it. Many people nowadays think that they are the results of their circumstances and that what they want or do not want does not matter. This could not be more far from the truth. Every single person, at least in the western world, is completely responsible for how they live their lives. Of course, you cannot affect every single circumstance but you can definitely decide how you react to them. This is what is commonly known as optimism and pessimism. Optimism is not something fanciful or illusory. It is just a more useful way for looking at things and reacting to them.
Bad Decision > No Decision
A lot of people run into this trap of procrastinating on deciding so long that they ultimately do not decide at all. This is the worst-case scenario. You want to know why? Because you do not grow even a little tiny bit. You stand still. The huge advantage of a bad decision compared to no decision at all is that you can learn a lot from your mistakes. Whenever you decide you grow because you encounter new experiences and you adapt to them. Also, there is still the chance that your decision is a good one. It is a win-win situation. If you want to look at it from a philosophical point of view there is no objective good or bad at all. Maybe your decision causes huge negative results in the short run but turns out to be the best thing you could have done in the long run.
Making decisions also increases your self-esteem. This is a very masculine characteristic. If you want to be a leader in life, no matter if it is in a business, in a relationship or in a group of friends, you need to be good at making right decisions fast.
How to Decide Right
Now that you know how important decisions are, how do we make the right ones? In the first place, you should not be afraid to fail. Not progressing at all is the biggest mistake you can make. Always decide authentically with your highest mind. Think carefully about the situation and what is the best option you have, take time, decide and then fully commit to your decision. Of course, you can also get help if you absolutely do not know what to do. This process guarantees you the best results you are able to generate. Your self-esteem will not decrease because you did your best. Just always apply those three steps:
- Think carefully / Strategize
- Decide upon what makes the most sense
- Commit to it without any excuses
You can still modify your strategy if it seems inappropriate after rethinking later on. So let us start with the first exercise for you to implement in your life right now: Commit yourself to never ever procrastinate on important decisions!
Alright, I am signing off! I hope I was able to help you a little bit on your journey towards an extraordinary life. Keep going!
